Cupcakes are really simple to make and even simpler for kids to decorate. Considering Halloween colors are generally black and orange then you will need black and orange food coloring. And you may need some silver sprinkles or multi-colored sprinkles. One of those tubes of decorating frosting that works after you cut the tip is another possibility to use for decorating Halloween cupcakes. The good thing about cupcakes is that you have instant portion control and can make enough cupcakes to serve any number of people.
Using Plain Cupcake Pans
If you don’t use a special cupcake form pan then you can use a normal cupcake pan and decorate them to look scary for Halloween. You can make an eyeball design using a red icing gel pen for the blood lines and a black gun drop on a yellow lifesaver for the eye bit. Or use white frosting and add a largish marshmallow then cover the marshmallow with white fondant shaped into a ghostly form. Add black eyes. A fondant is a sugar and water mixture heated to the soft ball stage so it is somewhat pliable. Or consider Halloween stencils.
Using Special Format Silicon Cupcake Pans
If you really do something big every Halloween then you could invest in some of those special form silicone pans. These pans come in various shapes such as a pumpkin shape cupcake pan or a skeleton like form cupcake pan or the classic skull shape. Then after you have used your favorite cupcake recipe even if it is a box mix all you have to do is decorate the cupcake shape to look like what it portrays. A skull shape can have black gel icing pen to make the eyes look like black holes or frost a pumpkin form in orange and add the scary pumpkin look.
